Hair Loss Treatment
Finasteride
Finasteride (1 mg daily) is an FDA-approved oral drug for male pattern baldness. It reduces DHT, slowing hair loss in 80-90% of men and regrowing hair in 50-65% after 1-2 years. Best for early-to-moderate loss. Side effects (1-2%): decreased libido, erectile dysfunction. Rare: persistent symptoms (controversial). Not for women; avoid in pregnancy. Topical versions may
reduce side effects. Pair with minoxidil for better results.
Minoxidil
Minoxidil is an FDA-approved topical (2%/5%) or oral (off-label, 0.25-5 mg) treatment for male/female pattern baldness. It stimulates follicles, slowing loss and regrowing hair in 60-80% of users within 3-12 months. Best for early loss. Topical side effects: irritation, shedding (5-10%). Oral: rare heart issues, needs prescription. Apply topical twice daily. Pair with finasteride for men. Stopping reverses gains. Over-the-counter (topical) or prescription (oral).
